About the Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is the main service choir that sings during the Worship Services throughout the year.  Its members are comprised of year round people as well as folks who call the Lake Wales area home during the Winter months. The Choir is in session 11 months of the year with a break in July. Annually, the choir performs a Cantata during Advent which includes a live Orchestra.  On occasion, members of the Chancel Choir perform solos, duets and quartets.  We consider ourselves blessed to be serving our Lord and Savior through the gift of music and are honored to be singing in His Earthly Choir.

About the Director

Brian Chance studied music at Western Carolina University in North Carolina and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 1990.  While in college, he studied trumpet performance playing with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and was a participant in the Cullowhee Music Festival.  During Christmas and Easter, he performed numerous times at Lake Junaluska in Waynesville on such pieces as Handel's "Messiah" and J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio.  A highlight of his tenure in college was performing inside the historic Biltmore House in Asheville, NC.

Born and raised in Brevard County, FL, he returned to Florida and began his teaching career at Frostproof Middle/Senior High School as Director of Bands from 1991 to 1998.  In 1998, he became the Director of Bands at McLaughlin Middle School in Lake Wales.  In 2002, the Lord called him to serve as the Music Director of the FUMC of Lake Wales.
